The Africa Cup of Nations 2025 has taken center stage in December and early January, as 24 teams went to Morocco aiming to be crowned AFCON champs. Now only a handful remain in this brilliant tournament being held in nine stadiums across six cities in Morocco.

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations kicked off Sunday, Dec. 21 and will determine the continent's champion on Sunday, Jan. 18.

Sudanese goalkeeper Monged Elneel fainted on the field, collapsing forward and falling almost face-first to the ground. The fainting occurred at the 37th minute of the first half, with the score at 0-0.

Morocco coach Walid Regragui has angrily rejected suggestions his team is benefiting from favorable refereeing decisions as the Africa Cup of Nations host. On the field, however, Cameroon might have had two penalties if experienced referee Dahane Beida hadn’t decided in favor of the home team.
